Ios Island is part of the Cyclades Island group
Although the island has no airport, it has one or more daily connections to Piraeus either by regular ferry (8–10 hours) or by high-speed vessel (4½ hours).
Ios is also a terminus of the route operated by SAOS Ferries from Santorini and Anafi, via Sikinos and Folegandros, offering connections with these lesser islands five times weekly. In the summer there are also fast links almost daily with Santorini and Naxos by Flying Dolphin.
Modern, welcoming, comfortable and with a wide range of services, is the Liostasi Spa Hotel (T. 22860 92140, fax 92680, www.liostasi.gr) situated panoramically between the port and Chora.
At the north end of Ormos Bay, are Petra Villas—attractively appointed studios, in relative quiet and seclusion, close to the water (T. 22860 91409).
The challenge on Ios is locating simple and genuine Greek cuisine: in the main centres this can be found at Taverna Susanna in Plateia Limaniou beside the port, and at the small Koutouki tou Saïni, near the "Epano Piatsa" at the eastern end of the old part of Chora. For good fresh fish, vegetable dishes and salads, the Taverna Alonistra at Psáthi on the east coast of the island is reliable and pleasant.
