CENTRAL SECTOR: South of Sokratous Street &the Marine Gate
 and west of Pythagora Street
General
This area of the mediaeval city is a labyrinth of tiny, crooked streets, on which it is hard to impose a foolproof and logical itinerary for visiting its many monuments. Two itineraries in the form of loops are outlined below: the first (eastern) loop, beginning at the Marine Gate on the Main Harbour, covers what is seen in the area of the rectangle of Pythagora, Omirou, and Aghiou Phanariou Streets, finishing at the Mehmet Agha Mosque on Sokratous Street; the second (western) loop begins at the Mehmet Agha Mosque, winds through Arionos Square to the St Athanasius Gate, and re turns down Ippodamou and Sokratous Streets to where it began.
